The Invalides officially known as “L'Hôtel national des Invalides is a building complex comprising museums among other monuments all related to the military aspect of France. It includes a hospital and a retirement home for War veterans; this was the original purpose of the complex. The buildings house the Musée de l'Armée, (military museum), the Musée des Plans-Reliefs (Plans and Reliefs),and the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine (Modern History). It also houses memento material in connection with a number of France's War heroes. The most important piece is no doubt Napoleon’s tombstone.
This off the beaten track guided tour will be the opportunity to see the Hôtel National des Invalides from inside.You will hear anecdotes, unconventional stories, legends, all along the tour. Your guide will begin with a presentation of the history and architecture of Les Invalides; this will give you an inside view of the day-to-day life of its residents back in the 17th Century.
